Afualo Faamoetauloa Dr Wood’s career path spans across various areas from teaching, consultancy, technical advisor to the Comptroller, Customs, Manager of the Research Statistics in Samoa Visitors Bureau to working in the Agricultural Department. He’s been the Chief Examiner/Marker for Year 13 Economics (Pacific Senior Secondary School) 2006-2007 and has written numerous research papers in various areas for the development of Samoa including textbooks – Public Finance in the Pacific: Small and Medium Enterprises in the Pacific and textbooks for Economics Year 12 and Year 13 (ongoing). Amongst his many managerial roles he is currently the Chairperson for the Oceania Development Network and a member of the Research Steering Committee for Pacific Leadership Program (PLP). His current research interests lie in the area of the development of Samoa’s economy including areas of Micro financing, redevelopment of Asau Harbor/Wharf, agricultural sector, remittances and implications of the Fishery Export Trade Policy and many more.

Sasa’e Walter

Sasa’e Walter was an Assistant Secretary to Cabinet and a Deputy Press Secretary at the Prime Ministers Department. She was also a Communication Project Leader for the PSC ISP and an External Relations Specialist for the UNDP. Sasa’e conducted some consultancies for the Editor and Publications Works for International Waters Programme, SPREP, Vailima and have also conducted Market Audits for Nescafe products, Watties products and Punjas. Sasa’e interests are in the area of Finance and Management and she played a major role in developing of the Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) Programme.

Tuita’alili Punivalu was the Finance Director for NUS from 2004 until he resigned last year (2008) He was also Dean, Faculty of Commerce (now known as Faculty of Business & Entrepreneurship) from 2001-2004. He has previously worked as an Auditor and Accountant for Betham and Co. and Price Waterhouse. He is a member of the following local and international professional bodies, relative to the accountancy profession: AFAANZ (Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand), Samoa Institute of Accountants and is a CPA Associate for the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants.

Peter Sinclair was active in the establishment of the then newly-formed Western Samoa Society of Accountants (now Samoa Institute of Accountants). The Society operated its own evening classes for many years before accountancy teaching was merged into NUS as part of the Faculty of Commerce. From 1969 to 1998 he worked in Papua New Guinea, gaining wide experience in accounting and financial law with Education and Finance Departments, University of Papua New Guinea and Management of United Nations projects in government financial management. On returning to Samoa in 1999 he worked in Treasury as a consultant on financial management legislation before joining NUS. He is currently a Faculty representative on Senate and is actively involved with Oceania Development Network, a World Bank-supported research body.

Silupevaelei Molioo–Vaai taught in secondary schools for five years before joining NUS in 1999. She was also involved in setting Exams for Samoa School Certificate Level. She is an Economics lecturer for the Foundation Year and degree level courses.

Liza Ete has taught English and Social Science in High Schools in Fiji for five years, prior to joining the Otago Polytechnic Fiji Centre, as a lecturer for six months in 2000. She was hired by Yazaki EDS Samoa as a Senior Human Resource Officer, when she came to Samoa in 2000. In 2001, Liza Ete joined NUS as a Lecturer in Management. Her areas of interests are: organizational development, worker productivity, work-life balance, industrial relations in developing countries, and gender studies in Pacific organizational context.

Tupuola Vaa has over 10 years of experience in various companies at management level. He was the Deputy General Manager at Yazaki EDS Samoa from 1992-1996. He also worked at Polynesian Airlines from 1987 – 1992 first as Sales & Marketing Manager and then as Personnel & Training Manager. In his early days he worked in the New Zealand Education Department as a Teacher, Adult Tutor and in the Resource Personnel Section. He also has extensive experience and involvement in sports management. He was a member of the South Pacific Games Councils Subcommittee, the Secretary General of SASNOC and National Coach for the Men’s Volleyball Team to name a few. Tupuola has been a part-time lecturer in Management, Sports and Fitness and Marketing since 2006.

Faato Sila was the top BCom student in 2003 at the National University of Samoa. He was awarded the Misa Telefoni Prize. His teaching interests are in the area of Accounting especially accounting soft wares (MYOB and QuickBooks) and Financial Accounting.

Jackie has been involved in running a variety of small family businesses including a hotel property. Through this capacity she has been heavily involved in the tourism industry and is a member of the Samoa Hotel Association. In 2005, she joined the British American Tobacco Marketing team as a Trade, Marketing and Distribution Manager and was also Coordinator for their Sales and Operational Planning team. She was a part time lecturer for Human Resource Management in 2006. She joined the Faculty as a full-time Marketing Lecturer in 2007. Her teaching interests are in the areas of marketing management, human resources and organizational behaviour.

University joined the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship after working with the Ministry of Health as a Policy Analyst. She is one of the top graduates of the National University of Samoa in 2003 and a recipient of the first Student Exchange Program Scholarship from the University of the Ryukyus, Japan. Her interests include upgrading her knowledge and qualifications to a more advanced level of Economics and other business related modules.

Joey graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. He received a Masters Degree in Public Health in 2006 from the University of Sydney. He had previously worked for two years with a Native American Diabetes Program, first as the Community Fitness Coordinator and was promoted to Diabetes Program Coordinator in 2007. He arrived in Samoa in October of 2008 as a Peace Corps Volunteer. His professional interests and aspirations include community chronic disease prevention programs and community education for health, fitness and nutrition.

Tali’s previous employment includes the Ministry of Women Affairs as a Senior Administrative Clerk based at Salelologa, Savaii in 1998. In 2005 she was hired as a Senior Administrative Clerk and also an Assistant Community Officer for the Division for Women (MWCSD). In 2006 she worked as an Administrative Assistant to the ACEO-Division for Women (MWCSD) based in Apia. She joined the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship in April, 2008 as Faculty Secretary.
