Introduction

The Mathematics and Statistics(M&S) Department offers a variety of courses ranging from pure Mathematics to application courses for the mathematically inclined student and for those who seek to become better teachers and students of mathematics.
The programmes availableare for the award of a (1) "Certificate in Mathematics" (CertMaths); and (2) "Diploma in Mathematics"(Dip.Maths). Furthermore, students enrolled in degree programmes(ie. Bachelor Of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Nursing) of the University may take a selected number of Mathematics courses to enable them to have Mathematics as a major, minor or elective subject, in accordance with the requirements of the M&S Department and respective Degree Statutes.

ELIGIBILITY

A candidate shall be eligible to enrol in any programmes offered by the M&S department provided they meet the minimum entry requirements as described below:

For the programmes of:
Certificate in Mathematics
Diploma in Mathematics
BA/BSc(Mathematics)

Minimum entry requirements are passes in:
HMA010 or equivalent
HMA020 or equivalent
HST050 or equivalent
Those who do not meet the above minimum entry-requirements must indertake, and pass the the appropriate(preliminary) courses:

	HMA055	Basic Mathematics I
	HMA056	Basic Mathematics II
before being eligible to enroll in HMA010, HMA020 and HST050
