On Monday the 2nd of December 2019 the UNDP and UNESCO driven ‘Multi-disciplinary Research Initiative’ which is the third component of the Samoa Knowledge Society Initiative Project was launched at the National University of Samoa School of Maritime Training and Marine Research Centre Campus located at Mulinu’u. The launch was conducted through a training which included researchers from the NUS, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the University of Abu Dhabi and the New York University. The Multi-disciplinary Research Initiative component is a pilot study addressing the environment-health nexus in Samoa through conducting sample collections with the partnering institutions in biosecurity of fresh water to inform policy revision in biodiversity conservation and public health. The multi-disciplinary research platform will foster partnerships with the universities and the United Nations Dag Hammarskjold Library’s open research team to further initiate and conduct joint research. The official launch of the Samoa Knowledge Society Initiative Project is scheduled on the 20th of December 2019.
