External Reviews are carried out every 5 years for all academic sections within the National University of Samoa and is coordinated by the Academic Quality Unit. The purpose of the review is to identify and assess the quality of section’s operations and programmes, gather evidence from staff, students and stakeholders and to develop and implement action plans. It is a major undertaking which requires work spread out over a year and requires engagement of NUS with a cross section of community users and supporters. The findings assist in establishing and improving academic section’s outcomes
The Oloamanu Centre for Professional Development and Continuing Education (OCPDCE) established in 2005 had it’s first External Review in 2012. Their most recent review was in January 2018, with a site visit conducted from January 15 – 17. Over the 3 day period the review panel team; Jeff Ashford of Victoria University of Wellington, Lemalama Taaloga Faasalaina, Community Representative and Joyce Adam of Samoa Qualifications Authority, engaged in dialogue with OCPDCE staff, students, graduates and stakeholders; Public Service Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Samoa Umbrella for Non Governmental Organisations, who provided valuable insight to the Centre and its relationships.
The review team presented a preliminary report on January 17, 2018 to the Vice Chancellor, Senior NUS Management and OCPDCE staff which outlined commendations and recommendations to address in the future. The final report will provide detailed findings for OCPDCE to address and to set out action plans for Senate and Council approval by May 2018.
