Vision
"The Department of Education acknowledges the unique mission of the Faculty of Education as well as providing future teachers with the content knowledge, pedagogical skills and professional dispositions needed to educate the future leaders of our nation"
Overview
Talofa lava! and welcome to the Education Department.
The courses we offer provide the building blocks for understanding and processing what happens when we are teaching and when we are learning. Their main purpose is to provide a solid theoretical foundation for the development of key skills, desired attributes and professional knowledge that are pertinent to aspiring and experienced educators. To this end, the Department covers key educational areas in psychology, theories of learning, philosophy, research skills, contemporary issues, curriculum and assessment. Many of these courses are core (i.e. compulsory) to each of the five study programs offered by the Faculty.
The Department is also responsible for the development of two specialist teaching areas; special needs education and early childhood education. Teaching is challenging at the best of times, but if you're interested in taking the challenges up a level or two, these specialist areas offer the prospective teacher, in fact any teacher, an exciting and motivating program of study
The Education teaching team, comprising of experienced and well qualified educators, are experts in their areas of study and look forward to engaging with you in their respective courses.
